The goal of the summer associate program is to allow the summer associates to experience all of the firm's practice areas that are consistent with the summer associate's desires. Summer associates are encouraged to try work in each practice area in which they have an interest as we believe the summer associate program should assist summer associates in making informed career choices. This program is also designed to provide summer associates with the opportunity to become personally acquainted with the attorneys and staff on an informal basis through a variety of social events.
Summer associates conduct legal research, draft memoranda, briefs, pleadings and corporate documents, and observe client meetings, depositions, mediation, and trials. Summer associates have the opportunity to work with each of the firm's attorneys and may choose from certain work assignments to gain greater exposure to desired practice areas. Involvement often includes direct participation by the summer associate.
Summer associates receive comments with respect to their work product upon completion of each project. The firm has an "open-door" policy and summer associates are encouraged to ask questions and to seek guidance and advice whenever desired. At the end of the summer, the firm provides the summer associate with an informal evaluation of the work the summer associate has performed.
On-campus interviews for summer associates are generally conducted at both Indiana University law schools. Second-year students at the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses are encouraged to apply through their career placement office during the fall recruiting season. Additional interviews will be conducted at our offices with the participation of all attorneys in the firm.
While we do not travel to all law schools to conduct on-campus interviews, all applicants from all law schools are considered. If you desire to be considered for a summer associate position, submit a cover letter, resume and writing sample to:
