A primary goal of the firm is to further educate, train and develop new associates and laterals to become the finest attorneys possible and to enjoy the private practice of law as a career. Associates receive significant experience and working knowledge in the context of specific projects in which associates and partners work together closely.
Associates will be assigned to a specific practice area and encouraged to develop expertise and excel in their practice area. The firm encourages attendance at continuing legal education courses appropriate to the attorney's practice area and level of practice, including the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) for litigation oriented attorneys.
In addition to project based reviews received by associates from the partners with whom they work, associates receive an annual performance review at which time the associate's strengths and weaknesses are evaluated and the associate's overall development is discussed. All attorneys are evaluated, in part, on their commitment to the high quality practice of law with the firm, and new associates and laterals are urged to devote appropriate time and attention necessary to fully develop the skills of the practice.
The annual billable hour goal for associates is currently 1750 hours. In addition, the firm expects associates will spend appropriate time on practice development, training, professional development activities, community service and administrative activities within the firm.
Associate compensation is competitive with firms in the regional legal community and with the clientele served. The firm also offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, long term disability insurance and a 401k pension and profit sharing plan. The firm provides professional liability insurance for all attorneys and membership in local and national professional associations.
